Botox is a way to prevent muscle function in parts of the body for several months at a time. It's been a way that people prevent wrinkles from forming because the parts of the body do not move like they normally do, which causes the wrinkle to form. If you are considering Botox to help with wrinkles, you'll likely want to know what to expect during the procedure.

Medical History Review

One of the first steps in the process is going to be reviewing your medical history with your doctor. They are going to want to make sure that you are not allergic to anything that is in the Botox injection that would cause you to react poorly. Expect to be asked a lot of questions about medications and allergies, and to not move forward if you are not a good candidate for Botox.

Consultation

You'll receive a consultation with the doctor to find out what brings you in for Botox. This is your opportunity to talk about all of the problem areas that you are not happy with, and the doctor can advise the best course of action to take to deal with those issues. For example, you may not be happy with the wrinkles along your forehead or the corner of your eyes.

Preparation

Numbing medicine will be applied to the areas where you will receive the Botox injection. This is in the form of a cream that is rubbed directly onto the injection sites that will receive the Botox. This is to help you not feel the needle used for the Botox injection and make it as pain-free as possible.

Injections

Once the area is numb, you'll start receiving the actual Botox injections. If you are getting Botox for forehead wrinkles, the injections will start along the middle of your forehead and move up and outward. Care is taken to make sure that any Botox injections are made close to the bone around the eye, rather than near the eyelids, to prevent the eyelids from drooping.

After Care

An ice pack will be applied to the area of the injection site to help the area heal. You'll likely remain seated for several minutes afterward while holding an ice pack in place. Thankfully, there is no recovery period after receiving Botox injections. Once you leave the office, you are free to resume your day, go back to work, and return to life as normal.
